Kagoro killings: Account of a survivor.

I, my wife, mum, Smith, Ngunan, Auntie Justina along with other maternal aunts and uncles visited one of my maternal in-laws who was a survivor of the Kagoro killings of February, 2022 at his Kagoro residence, today 10th July, 2022. His late wife is my mother's sister.

Even though he survived, he lost his wife and two of his children in the attack. He has one son and daughter left. The daughter is married.

He described as the bandits came in buses and surrounded the neighbourhood and started burning houses and shooting indiscriminately. They were said to be armed with very sophisticated arms.

His daughter, Anita, my cousin was just recovering from hip replacement surgery she had about 3 months before then as a result of gunshot injuries sustained in a similar attack by bandits.

His account was so emotional as many of my aunties were sobbing and shedding tears.

Even though his house was not set ablaze, life no longer has meaning to him as he is left alone to mourn the bitter events of that night.

He recalled the previous attack when Anita was shot in the hip. They were returning home in his car when they were ambushed and shot at. Anita and another passenger in the car were affected.

We comforted him, reminding him of Job's ordeal and how he was restored fully. We also prayed for him.
